Reading, Writing, Doing, Continued

Reading

In the last post, I mentioned I was reading Black Sunday by Thomas Harris. I’ve now finished and reviewed it on Goodreads. If you’re over there, add me as a friend!

Here’s my quick review of the novel.

While not as sophisticated as Harris’s later works, this first novel from the man who brought us Hannibal Lecter is definitely worth a read. The story has slow parts, and some of the characters weren’t as interesting to me as they were to the author, but there is no denying the power of a plot that builds up to a massive act of terrorism. You know from the early pages exactly where this novel is headed and you simply must keep reading to find out what happens.

If you’re here because of Girls Wearing Black or Demon Queen, you might not like Black Sunday, but fans of One Fall will totally dig it, I think.

I’m now reading Damned by Chuck Palahniuk.

Writing

Worked on GWB3 for five hours today, first at a cafe in Southeast Albuquerque, then at a public library. I’ve been posting pictures of the writing spots on the FB page.

Doing

The Homecoming Masquerade audiobook is finished and should be up on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes next month. I’m now working with the same voice artist to produce Festival of the Moon.

Bought Festival of the Moon last year on my father’s Kindle Fire. It was an excellent read and can’t wait for book 3. Your review of Black Snday caught my attention. Maybe I should check that book out.

Hi Sheena-kay. Thanks for your comment. I’m so glad you liked the book!

Yes, I enjoyed Black Sunday for the quality of its writing and the climactic scene. But I would add the caveat that I think it is the worst of Thomas Harris’s five novels. Of course, the other four he wrote starred Hannibal Lecter, who is one of the great characters in modern literature. The bar was pretty high on those!
